Fancy Garbage Run
While the COVID-19 pandemic has caused many of us to ditch our fancy duds for sweatsuits, a U.K. makeup artist has turned trash day into her own little fashion show.
For the past five months, Nicola Matthews, 49, has been giving her neighbors a chuckle while making the most of her extensive wardrobe by donning ball gowns, cocktail dresses and full hair and makeup to take out her trash cans.
Britain's Daily Star reports Nicola began the stunt as a one-off joke, but soon found herself enjoying the new tradition.
So, every Wednesday at 8 p.m. at her home in Essex, Nicola gets dressed to the nines and has her photo taken with her garbage cans.
The outfits started off as simple party dresses, before escalating to ballgowns and props, with costumes inspired by Austin Powers, Marilyn Monroe and Desperate Housewives.
“I called it wheelie bin Wednesday, actually my bins go out on Monday but that doesn’t sound as good so I pushed my bin outside my house on Wednesday evenings and my neighbors, Christine and Gary, kindly took pictures.”
However, it isn't all fun and games as Nicola has raised hundreds of dollars for charity in the process.
“It was lovely to cheer people up through these times, and to get the dresses out," she tells the Star. “We have less and less need for long dresses these days.”
