Surprise Inside Car
This would have been a totally different story had this happened to a not-so law-abiding gentleman.
A man who bought a car cheap at auction didn't anticipate that the makings to become a near-millionaire was just inside the center console. Well, the makings of a law-breaking millionaire, that is.
The Webb County Sheriff's Office told the Laredo Morning Times that an unnamed man scored a cheap vehicle on Saturday and, after looking around to see what his money got him -- discovered that this car had the makings to make him the next Scarface.
He found 74 pounds of cocaine inside compartments hidden within the vehicle. The man uncovered 17 blocks and immediately phoned police.
Then again, probably a good move to involve law enforcement considering someone was bound to scream, "Hey, where'd my 74 pounds of coke go!?" Pretty sure the last thing that man wanted was to become tangled in a drug lord's web or have a certain unsavory someone knocking on his door.
Responding officers had a K-9 unit inspect the vehicle and discovered another 17 bricks of cocaine -- estimating that they recovered roughly $850,000 worth of the drug in all.
"I thank and congratulate the person who alerted us to the drugs. Had he not been an honest individual, the drugs could have ended up in the wrong hands," said Sheriff Martin Cuellar in a statement.
Sherriff Cuellar added that those who use their crime tip line "may be eligible for a cash reward."
Did the man score a cut of the $850,000, though? Unlikely. But, hey, let's chalk it up as a win because this guy now has a car that comes with plenty of custom-built hiding spaces.
